Lacrosse

Sooke is moving from being a “travel-only” sport to having its own dedicated local programs thanks to the new outdoor box.

Local Sooke Teams (2026 Pilot)

Historically, Sooke players had to commute to Colwood (Juan de Fuca) for all practices. Starting in 2026, there is a new pilot program:

  • Sooke-Based Practices: Juan de Fuca Lacrosse (JDFLA) is piloting U7 and U9 teams that practice right in Sooke at the Ravens Ridge Sport Box.

  • Requirement: These teams are formed only if there is enough local interest and coaching volunteers.

Regional Association: Juan de Fuca (JDF) Whalers

For all other age groups (U11 to U17), Sooke residents play under the Juan de Fuca Lacrosse Association.

  • Home Arena: Q Centre and JDF Arena (Colwood).

  • Season: Box lacrosse runs from April to June, with registration peaking in January/February.

Academy Programs (SD62)

While EMCS in Sooke doesn’t have a dedicated lacrosse academy yet, many Sooke students commute to the Royal Bay Lacrosse Academy in Colwood, which is part of the same school district.

Facility: Ravens Ridge Outdoor Sport Box

This is the “home court” for lacrosse in Sooke. It is built to professional box lacrosse specifications.

  • Location: 2430 Phillips Road.

  • Status Note (Spring 2026): The box has been hosting a temporary skate park, but it is expected to be fully available for “exclusive use” lacrosse and ball hockey bookings by late Spring 2026.

Female Lacrosse

For 2026, all female divisions in the region are being hosted by the Victoria-Esquimalt Lacrosse Association (VELA). Sooke players wanting to play on all-female teams register here.
