I was out Saturday June 6th looking for sporting news in Sooke. I had just missed the Blue Devils match at EMCS, note their games usually start at 11am and they have one this coming Saturday, the 13th, at EMCS. Nothing happening at Fred Milne Park so I went up to the “Sooke Sports Box” in Sunriver off of Phillips Road. I found the Vancouver Island Ball Hockey League (VIBHL) in full swing, not a lot of spectators but teams waiting for their turn in the box. In the box when I arrived were the women, Renegades vs Fire Angels, from the Victoria Women’s division. Waiting their turn were the Vancouver Island Spartans from the Victoria Men’s Div 6, their opponents were the Vancouver Island Bandits. I didn’t stay around for the full match but due to the excellent league website I see the Spartans lost 8-0 to the Bandits and the Renegades and Fire Angels tied at 2-2.

Sooke Skate Park
The official opening of the Skate Park near Journey Middle School is May 31st and “will feature skate demonstrations, music, food trucks and giveaways.” We visited the weekend of May 16th and even though the construction fence is still up the park is open for use and we found a number of enthusiastic skaters trying out their moves. Sookarama 2026
While this isn’t a sporting event per se, it did feature some sport related booths. The annual event is organized by the Sooke Lions and a shout out to them, it brings together business and community organizations under one roof to showcase to the public. If you’re running your sport organization as a business and want to showcase your product to the local community, be here next year. The parking lot was full and there was a steady stream of visitors at the booths.
EMCS Rugby Home Openers
The EMCS Wolverines rugby teams had their home openers on Monday April 13th and Tuesday April 14th. The girls team kicked it off on Monday hosting Belmont, Spectrum and Glenlyon Norfolk schools for an afternoon of rugby 7s. The boys hosted Belmont and Esquimalt on Tuesday. The girls had the better weather, overcast and windy, compared to the boys who played under lashing rain throughout the afternoon. Photos of both days featuring the EMCS teams are posted below.
Sports in Sooke April 11th 2026 – Blue Devils Junior Football Home Opener & Horseshoe Club Active
This weekend was overcast with a bit of drizzle but it didn’t stop sports activities from proceeding in Sooke. After our customary stop at Tim Horton’s for coffee we dropped by EMCS where the Blue Devils Junior Football program were having their home opener. They were hosting the Spartans from Victoria. There was a good crowd on hand and the EMCS parking lot was full. We took a number of photos of the first game, we’re guessing the Atom age group (7-9). Afterwards we dropped by the Horseshoe Pitching Association to get some photos of their renovations, scroll to the end to see those. Sports in Sooke April 4th 2026 – Junior Football at Journey Middle School and Pearson College at EMCS
It was a beautiful sunny Saturday on the Easter weekend in Sooke. I started at EMCS after stopping for a coffee at the nearby Tim Horton’s. Pearson College were having a sports day, a soccer tournament by the looks of it, more on that later but the big news was at Journey Middle School where over 20 teams from up and down the Island were having a Junior Football Jamboree.
Ravens Ridge Sports Box
I drove to the Ravens Ridge Sports Box, 2430 Phillips Road, on a sunny Saturday in March, March 21st to be exact, to see what this relatively new facility looked like and how it was being used. The facility was officially opened on June 26th 2022 as described in this account “On a hot sunny Sunday summer late afternoon in Sooke, a long-time goal for the community was achieved. Headlining yesterday’s event to open the Sooke Community Sport Box at Raven’s Ridge Park was Premier John Horgan who is MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca where Sooke is the core of his base.”

Sooke Celtic lost 2-1 to Lakehill in the Sir John Jackson Cup semifinal, the match was tied at 1-1 at the half. Lakehill’s first half goal was a penalty kick. The match was played at Fred Milne Park in front of several hundred home fans. I also saw Robb, the610photographer, at the match so check with him for photos as well.
